Thrive Care Solutions has been set up by myself, Ed, a father of an 11 year old boy, who has a rare life-limited muscle condition called Myotubular Myopathy. I have been managing my son's entire Personal Health Budget for the past 7 years.
During this time, I have helped other families but felt that it was now the right time that I used my lived experience along with my passion for helping families with their PHB journey, so that they could feel supported by a more parent-led approach.
During the last 7 years, I have spent my time with my wife and family looking after our son to ensure he has the best quality of life he can with his life limited condition.
This has included spending time learning, understanding and taking on essential elements of a PHB to allow me to keep my son safe, give me flexibility and ultimately give my son the best care we can. Obviously, this has been a rollercoaster journey but this is where I want to use my experiences to help support and ultimately empower new or existing PHB owners to feel confident in all areas of PHBs, especially becoming employers and looking after their own care staff.
It can be incredibly rewarding when you have good staff working for you and who can feel almost part of the family, providing the level of care you want for you or your family member,.
Knowing how difficult and stressful it is to care for a loved one, as well as dealing with day to day responsibilities, the additional burden of a PHB sometimes can be a step too far. But if the knowledge, support and guidance is provided, a PHB can be a lifeline to a family to allow control over their loved ones care.
Real family stories are incredibly powerful and insightful into how a PHB can positively impact an individuals quality or life as well as these stories can also educate and highlight how areas of PHB delivery and support can be improved with all those involved. That is why I believe it is important for regular and continued conversations between PHB owners and ICB's to constantly improve and understand both sides of the process.
My vision is to combine my own experiences, the experiences of others and best practices to bring about a more supportive, empowered and positive experience to those embarking on a PHB journey.
